Affordable Housing

Leo is out on holiday, but Otis and Tyra take the reins to bring you the latest in affordable housing.

Their guests, Dan Phillips and Amanda Tullos, discuss plans for an affordable housing program made from reused materials with Brigid's Paradigm in Houston.  Also, Sheila W. Blake, City of Houston Public Works & Engineering Planning & Development Services - Code Enforcement discusses building permitting with reused materials.

Phillips founded The Phoenix Commotion, building creative, charming affordable homes in Huntsville for 9 years from materials that builders and others discard, using unskilled labor that he trains.  Home owners must assist with construction and qualify for a 5 year mortgage.

Amanda Tullos, a LEED Architect and Green Team Coordinator with Heights Venture Architects anchors Phillips' project with Brigid's Paradigm in Houston. [Production: Tyra Rankin]
